Everest Cultural Trek

The highlight of this trek is the Tengboche Monastery located at an altitude of 3860m. Built in 1919, the Tengboche monastery is a spectacular structure and a strong symbol of Sherpa Buddhist religion and culture. The monastery survived an earthquake in 1934 and a fire in 1989. With funds raised from international well-wishers and Sherpas, the present monastery was rebuilt from scratch.

Getting up to Tengboche, you will encounter several villages and sites of cultural and religious importance of the Sherpa people. Khumjung is a peaceful and idyllic village with potato fields and also the site of the first of the “Schools for the Sherpas” built by Sir Edmund Hillary. The founder of Sherpa Trekking Service (STS), Mr. Kalden Sherpa was sent to school in Kathmandu by Hillary to return and teach at the school established here. Namche is the commercial hub of the region and provides a wonderful vantage point to view the high Himalayas.

This trek designed for those who do not have the luxury of time but would like to get high up in the Everest Region to have views of the world’s tallest mountains. One can have a glimpse of the Everest (8848m) and other beautiful giants like Nuptse (7879m), Lhotse (8501m), Ama Dablam (6812m), Kwangde (6011m) and Thamserku (6623m) – are visible.
