Gokyo Lakes and EBC Charity Trek 08- 24 MAY, 2009
In Benefit of Bio Gas Project for Arya Tara School

The Gokyo Route, more challenging than the Direct Route to Everest Base Camp, gets you off the beaten track to Everest and offers panoramic views of Mt. Everest and a number of other 8000m giants.

Gokyo Lake sits at an altitude of 4,750m at the side of the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest in the Nepal Himalaya. From a ridge above the lake, the great peaks of Cho Oyu (8,153m), Everest, Lhotse and Makalu (8,481m, the fifth highest mountain in the world) can be taken in at one sweep. The emerald surface of the lake spreads out far below and there are stone-walled pastures on its shores.

This Charity Trek is in benefit of the Bio-Gas Project at the Arya Tara School in Pharping. The school and provides free boarding, food and secular education to 50 young Buddhist nuns who come from the most impoverished regions in Nepal. The Bio-Gas Project is a forward thinking, sustainable way to produce energy for cooking, cleaning by turning human and food waste into energy.  The aim of this trek is to raise NRS 150000/- (roughly US$ 2000/) toward partial costs of setting up and maintenance of this bio-gas project at the school.
