Mr. Kalden Sherpa (a pioneer in the tourism industry of Nepal who in 1971 founded the adventure travel company Sherpa Trekking Service), suffered a stroke in February 2002. Mr. Sherpa and his family never thought in their dreams that something like a stroke could bring the very energetic business person to witness a morning that would paralyze the entire right part of the body. 6 years of experience with stroke rehabilitation with not much of awareness, inadequate support and care facilities in Nepal for Stroke patients, brought Mr. Sherpa’s family to a conclusion to do something for those need of support during the post-stroke rehabilitation phase. The concept of the Kalden Sherpa Stroke Rehabilitation Center (KSSRC) was conceived.
Kalden Sherpa Stroke Rehabilitation Centre (KSSRC) will be a registered Non-Profit making Non Governmental Organization (NGO) under the rules and regulations of the Nepal Government. The establishment of the KSSRC aims be the first of its kind ever in Nepal, with facilities and care to be provided to a Stoke patient for rehabilitation. The programs and services provided by KSSRC will have a Rehabilitation/Wellness Facility located in a quiet and peaceful setting outside Kathmandu, where stroke patients can get the full care and rehabilitative services employing both western and eastern methods from efficient doctors and nurses. A well equipped and suitable rehabilitation facility for stroke patients would be constructed in 750 sq meters of land. Tentative Location for KSSRC is in Ghumauri Chowk, Sankhu, 45 minutes to 1 hr drive outside Kathmandu valley with a hospital close by.
KSSRC is in the very beginning phases of planning and development, and support is required to raise funds for the seed money to establish this center.
