Overview:

Friends of Singla (FOS) is an organization that aims to directly help Singla, a village in the remote but picturesque Manaslu Region of Nepal. It was formed by three individuals – Therese Baenziger from Switzerland, Som Gurung a resident of Singla and Kesang Sherpa founder of Charities and Challenges.

Singla Village is located in the high Himalayas at a height of 2400 m in the state of Gorkha, North-West of Kathmandu (the capital city of Nepal). As it falls in a very remote “untouched” region, there is no road access, no hospitals or health posts.

FOS wishes to help improve the basic education, sanitation, health and hygiene for the people of Singla. The village school needs a library, more teachers to improve the current student to teacher ratio of 3:190 (only 3 teachers for almost 200 students). FOS also wishes to provide scholarships to 5 Singla children every year. In the area of Sanitation, Health and Hygiene, the goals of FOS are to build 4-5 toilets and make a system for water regulation and provide one health post with a regular staff nurse for first aid, family planning, personal hygiene etc.

This is possible through charitable contributions and kind donations from our friends and supporters as well by directly visiting Singla Village on a trek to the Manaslu Region.
